What to Take to Croatia: Complete Packing List for the Sea, Car and Apartment
A complete packing list for a holiday in Croatia. What to pack for the sea, car, apartment, children, beach and illness.
Although almost everything you need can be bought in Croatia, it is still a good idea to take some things with you. In some areas, prices are higher and small shops may not have exactly what you need. The most important thing is to pack according to how you are travelling, where you will stay and who you are travelling with.
Do Not Travel to Croatia Without These Things
- identity card or passport,
- driving licence,
- vehicle registration certificate,
- green card / proof of vehicle insurance,
- health insurance card,
- travel insurance,
- payment card,
- cash in euros,
- accommodation confirmation,
- phone and charger,
- regular medication,
- sunscreen, swimwear, beach towel and water shoes.
Many people rely only on a payment card. Although you can pay by card in many places, cash is useful for parking, markets, bakeries, ice cream, beach services or boat trips.
What Not to Take to Croatia
Many people pack unnecessary things and then just carry heavy suitcases around.
- too many clothes,
- large amounts of food,
- a hairdryer if the apartment provides one,
- expensive jewellery,
- too much electronics,
- several pairs of formal shoes,
- large supplies of bottled water,
- towels if the apartment provides them,
- “just in case” items you normally do not use.
A car is not a storage room. The more things you carry, the worse the travelling, parking and unpacking will be.
The Best Combination for a Comfortable Holiday
A comfortable holiday in Croatia is created by combining three things: a well-packed car, a practically equipped apartment and a reasonable plan for each day.
An apartment with a kitchen gives you freedom. You do not have to go to a restaurant every day, you can prepare breakfast your way, store drinks in the fridge and take food to the beach.
